Down & Out & KKD Originals!

Little Man has been down and out...fever, chills, and throw up! Wednesday early in the morning he came down to our room crying. Both The Engineer and I bolted out of bed. Little Man said he felt sick. The Engineer and I got in a short-lived quarrel telling one another "go back to bed, I'll take care of him" (not the norm for us). In the middle of said quarrel, Little Man heaved...the hall rug bore the brunt, as well as the bathroom floor, and two bath mats. Thank the Lord for the Engineer! He cleaned up most of it. I tend to dry-heave with sympathy.

Sister has been rocking some homeschool! Which has been hard, given the ebb and flow of our schedule this past week.

Of course, that is one of the blessings of homeschool. (Not to mention reading on the kitchen table!)

Though, the poor girl has been nearly ignored until the afternoon when the two youngest are down for "rest time" at which time, because of the week's circumstances, homeschool commences. I am so thankful for her tender heart and maturity!

And Little Bit - the poor thing...I took her back to the doctor Tuesday morning. Her ear infection hadn't cleared up and in fact, the other ear had become infected, too. A double ear infection. She's also begun breathing treatments every four hours until she stops wheezing...

I neglected to mention our weekend adventure! The phone rang at 4:50 am Saturday morning - our dear friends were in labor and needed to drop their boys off with us! The Engineer was away for the night, so I flew solo for a few hours!

Five kids total - six and under - wore me out! But we had a blast! I love getting to keep children when babies are being born!

Between the crazy weekend and two sick babies, I had been longing for a little down time. Yesterday The Engineer took half a day and came home to offer relief. What a blessed, precious gift!

And now, let me tell you about something WONDERFUL!!! I can't tell you how often I stand before my closet, that's packed with clothes, and think to myself, "I have nothing to wear!"

Really, I had lots to wear, I just lacked fresh eyes. Not anymore. My dear friend Kristee came over last week and literally, put together around fifty - yes, FIFTY new outfits!!! And the best part is, I didn't buy a single piece of clothing!!! She worked exclusively with what I had.

We pulled everything out of my closet and she began "doing her thing"...and before I knew it, she was pairing up stuff I'd NEVER think to put together. "Now, you can put this with this and then you could wear these boots or these clogs...you could also add a belt, oh, this sweater is great basic piece..."

If you know Kristee, you know she's always cute. Always in style. She's one of those mamas who are always adorable. I've admired her from a distance and only earlier this fall did I summon the nerve to ask her for a little help. And her response was incredibly gracious and kind.

Let me tell you, Help came last week! And I am so thrilled with the end results! As she laid out clothing, I wrote descriptions and quickly snapped photos. Y'all, I feel like I just went on a mega shopping spree! She really has a great eye for this kind of thing.

I heard a little rumor that she might be starting a side business doing this professionally. She tackled all my shoes, clothes, belts, and jewelry! And, she was incredibly gracious about the items that needed to go. Literally - I have over fifty new outfits!!! It was like my own private "What Not To Wear." I am telling you - if you feel at all void of style, uninspired, or like you "have nothing to wear" you need to get up with her. She's got a gift! {Email me for her info.}

Happy Thursday, y'all!

  1. You are an angel and so sweet for the compliments. (as I type this, I'm in faded black sweats) Glad you like your new outfits, but you'd be cute in anything.

  2. Love your shoes. I need some cute cowboy boots! And I've always wanted to try the "ankle boot" but still not convinced I can pull it off :)

  3. What my humble wife has not mentioned yet is that, just like kkd has the "shop your own closet" gift, my wife (Jenn) has the "shop your own house" gift. She can put all the rooms in your house together just with the furniture and stuff that's already there and make it look good. Y'all should start a Shop Your Own Stuff business.

  4. So sorry about your sick little ones. I hate sick kids. Really, I love them...but you know what I mean. They're just SO pitiful when they are ill.

Also, I need your friend {for my clothes} and you {for my house} STAT. Seriously, y'all could be quite a pair. I need help!

I'm sorry your little ones are sick. I like Little Man's haircut.

  14. Sister is the most gorgeous girl! She is just precious and I know her heart is even more lovely, which makes her so wonderful! I love reading about her homeschooling and seeing her reading makes this teacher-turned-homemaker's heart happy! I love seeing children reading and loving it. I'm so happy homeschool is working out to be such a blessing for your family!

I definitely need your friend to come over...but I think she would be scared of my closet. ha! What a fun way to bond with a girlfriend! Glad you are so happy with the result!

By the way, what size are you because I'd like you to send a few of those clothing items up here to Canada :) Good taste!
