Fleshing It Out

All day long, for the last several days, I cannot get this picture of the Gospel out of my mind.

A friend dropped by unexpectedly. We made small talk for a few minutes and then she told me something that took my breath away.

She and her husband have decided they want their oldest daughter to "do life" one morning a week with a mother who has young children. She made it clear, this isn't a babysitting gig, it's life on life stuff. They want their daughter helping that young mama at the grocery store, with laundry - with the daily stuff of life.

And then she told me they asked their daughter who she wanted to help...AND. SHE. PICKED.MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't done anything to deserve or earn her favor. NOTHING. NOT. ONE. STINKIN'. LITTLE. THING. And yet, she picked me.

Do you see the Gospel picture?

I see it so clearly and I am so humbled.

I haven't done anything to deserve or earn God's favor. NOTHING. NOT. ONE. STINKIN'. LITTLE. THING. And yet, He picked me to be His and He saved me from myself, my sinful self. He has washed away my sin and has given me His Son's righteousness. Oh the immeasurable unearned, undeserved blessings.

And right now, in this season of life, with three little ones - I wouldn't change it for anything, but the blessings of an extra set of hands as we "do life" for a morning...oh my. I am speechless. I am blessed.

Last Thursday was the first morning. We went grocery shopping and ran errands...and when Little Man's foot got run over by the buggy, there was another happy set of hands to take charge of the other two...and when Little Bit fell apart, and my arms were full of a crying Little Man, she was there to calm her. And when the buggy was unloaded and I was next in line to pay and Little Man started doing the "gotta go" dance, rather than leave with wet pants, or hurriedly throw everything back in the buggy, she took him to the bathroom. And when he collapsed in a heap, arms wrapped around my ankles and began falling apart, she scooped him up and Oh. The. Blessings. Completely undeserved.

This is the Gospel being fleshed out. It is a beautiful thing. It is a gift. A most undeserved gift. I am humbled and thankful and quite frankly, I am jumping up and down, screaming with glee, feeling like I won the lottery, rockin' awesome ecstatic! This young lady is quite a blessing to me and she is pointing me to the cross. I am so thankful for her.
