In-Dept-Indence Day

We got invited to a party...an In-Dept-Indence Day party. How very fitting.

Some friends of ours drank the kool-aid and decided to live radically...and get out of debt. Today they mailed their final payment to Sally-Mae. Shortly thereafter, they gave us a call and suggested we hold the phone back so they could scream, "WE'RE DEBT FREEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!" and then they drove past our house screaming, "FREEEEEDOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Pretty stinkin' cool.

Have you heard of Dave Ramsey? He teaches a radical concept...live on less than you make. It's Biblical and sound. We got "on board" several years ago and it has been life changing. Hard, but so good. Marriage changing. Hands down, AWESOME. We love Dave. (And one day, Lord willing, we're going to have a mortgage burning party. One day.)

  1. We're set to make our last student loan payment at the beginning of July. Then we're debt free except the house. Been following Dave's plan for years. It really does work.

  2. YAY for them! That's certainly an area in our lives that needs our focus. We used Dave's plan for a while, then I fell off the wagon! We're heading back in the right direction!
I was surfing the blogs tonight, and for some reason, God laid it on my heart to lift you up in prayer. Just wanted you to know that you were on my mind...funny how someone you've never met becomes so much a part of my thought process. Anyhow, praying for you & your beautiful family tonight!

  3. So awesome! I loved being debt free. now we have a $2,400 bill for my tooth and $500 for Andrew's surgery. I keep praying God will do a miracle. I know He will take care of it. I try not to worry. But I forgot the stress and burden that debt brings. It has been a long time. At least with us being on Dave Ramsey's budget system I know that we will eventually pay it off, even if it isn't complete until next year's tax returns.

Please send up a prayer for us.

Congrats to your friends. I couldn't help but smile and cry "freedom" with them.
